My entire family was deeply saddened to lose such a wonderful person. Throughout Rob’s life he always wished the best for others as he engaged with them and worked hard to make our world a better place. His unique sense of humour and broad grasp of so many areas of knowledge meant it was always a pleasure to meet with and to talk with him. Our thoughts and best wishes go especially to his loving wife Robyn and their family, to his loving mother Margaret and to his sisters Suzanne and Janice.

Hi Frank and Joan. Yes, Rob had very high values about being respectful and kind . He was a natural leader who had high aspirations for all who he was responsible for. ‘Some men see things as they are and say why, Rob saw things that never were and said why not’.

Hi Bob and Cheryl, your tribute to Rob was comforting. He truly was a wonerful conversational and I will dearly miss our daily ‘walk and talk’ and weekend evenings ‘beer o’clock’ chats that I shared with him.

Dear Robyn, Aimee, Paul and family,

My heart goes out to you, my condolences to you all on your loss. Everyone that knew him knows and will remember forever what a beautiful man, wonderful friend, supportive father and son, loving husband and cool grandfather Charlie Lappin has been.

One of the loveliest people I will ever have had the pleasure of knowing, and a true gentleman. Charlie will continue to be all these things, always close in your hearts and only ever a thought away. Thinking of you all.

Hi Donna. You said it all. Rob was the best of the best gentleman and he leaves us beautiful memories which we will hold dear to our hearts. He was a loving husband who shared with me, his hopes, dreams and most of all, his love. Rob will always walk with me through life and although I can’t feel him or touch him or hear his voice, I can certainly feel his presence. He was such a ‘ hands on’ Dad and Pa and the grandkids miss him terribly, especially his teasing.

My heartfelt condolences to Robyn, Paul and Aimee. ‘Charlie’ was always an inspiration back in the ‘old’ days when playing footy with Chiltern. He often took the time to give me good advice and was a reliable person who gave all the younger players encouragement and the belief to work on their strengths.
I loved playing footy with Charlie, he was honest, hard and fair and always encouraging, I won’t forget him. I’ve run into Charlie on many occasions over the years and he always had time for a chat and a reminisce. A fantastic bloke who’ll be sadly missed.
May all of the messages of support give you, and your family and friends, strength with the knowledge that ‘Charlie’ will be admired forever as a wonderful inspirational man who will be never forgotten. My thoughts and best wishes to you all.

Hi Peter. Thanks for sharing just how much you respected Rob as a ‘good decent’ man. Everything that he did in life inspired us all. His strength and determination lives on within us all. On the day Rob died, I took the grandkids and dogs for a walk up to the top of our ‘HILL END’. They had collected sticks in Rob’s honour along the way and when I asked them what would they like to do with those sticks, they replied that they didn’t know. So I said to them, follow me…. and showed them this tremendously strong tall gum tree which over looks our property and neighboring valley’s. This tree is now called ‘Pa’s ‘tree and as each grandchild layed their stick underneath this beautiful gum tree, they inscribed their initials in it’s grand trunk. As we looked out over the neighbors vine yard, one grandchild pointed out to me a massive dam in the shape of a lazy heart which makes his special place even more comforting.

Many of us had the good fortune to know Charlie and call him a friend. Mate, you have been taken too soon from us. On behalf of Julie and I, our deepest sympathies to Robyn & family. RIP.

Hi Dean and Julie. Rob was a great loyal mate who enjoyed reminiscing footy accomplishments. I was always amazed how you footy mates could distinctly remember that particular mark, handball and tackle which ultimately won the match. He sure does live on in our memories and most of all, our hearts.
