You will learn all aspects of the funeral service including meeting with families to make arrangements for funeral services, liaising with others to confirm arrangements, attending services and all aspects of the funeral process. Rostered after hours and weekend work is required. You must have good eye for detail as well as being sensitive to client’s grief, personal beliefs, traditions, rituals and specific needs. You will have the ability to organise an event at short notice.

This position is physically and mentally demanding.

Funeral experience is not necessary, we will train the right person.

Essential skills and attributes:


Excellent presentation and grooming.

Good physical strength and fitness – manual handling and transfer of heavy loads is required.

Experience working in a service industry.  Experience conducting an interview.

Flexibility to work according to the demands of the business including extra hours as required.

Availability for the on call roster which will include overnight and weekend call outs.

Willingness to take responsibility.

Ability to work under pressure.

Proficiency in MS office programmes.

Willingness to work as part of our team.

Ability to talk to people, some of whom may be distressed, with respect to their values and beliefs.

Listening skills.

Tact and sympathy.

Ability to work with attention to detail.

Current driver’s licence.


Outline of Duties

Funeral Director:

Meet with families to make arrangements for funeral services – at need and pre-need.

Liaise with cemetery/ministers/celebrant/musicians to organise and confirm arrangements.

Accurate data entry skills and competency with Microsoft Office programmes.

Maintain the high, professional standards of our company.


Funeral Conductor:

Take responsibility for funeral on the day to ensure service runs smoothly.

Instruct staff.


Funeral Attendant:

Attend funeral services.

Set up and pack away equipment, usher, hand out service sheets, take flowers/cards etc.

Prepare and operate audio visual tributes.

Transfer of deceased from place of death to funeral home.

Trimming of coffins.

Drive hearse and other vehicles.

Clean and maintain vehicles.


Assist with mortuary preparation


Base salary range $54,000 – $62,000 plus after hours payments.
