As a graduate of David’s Class of ‘78 I was saddened to hear that he has passed away, at such a seemingly young-at-heart age. Dr Wood was an inspiring person, a great lecturer and a good friend to so many of us. He provided so much encouragement to me and everyone in our classes, and “breathed” inclusion & diversity long before it was correct to do so, because that’s who he was.
R.I.P. David; I can’t help but feel your lovely family deserved you for many more years beyond all that time you gave to me and others so unselfishly. We will miss your timeless personality at our next class gathering, but we’re so pleased we were able to catch up and you could be part of a number of our dinners in recent years.

      Dearest Peter.
Your description of him was spot on! Thank you for your kind words.
David was genuinely proud of each and everyone of you and he loved the fact that despite not always being able to attend, you kindly always remembered to invite The Young at Heart man that he was!
I hope you and your classmates are travelling well in life.
      Regards Elene

“Dr Wood, Dr Wood…” There weren’t too many days in the “ChemEng” department that you wouldn’t hear me chasing him. He always greeted me with a smile and I spent plenty of time chatting with him – my insecurities and fears all laid bare – he always responded with pragmatic support and care particularly when my grandfather passed away in 3rd year. I wish I’d taken the opportunity to reach out when I was in country

Thank you for your kind words. You have beautifully described many of the reasons why I fell in love with him. Always know that if he was giving you sage advice, it was coming from the heart because he genuinually cared.
I hope you are travelling well in life.
      Regards Elene

      Dearest Mary,
Thank you for your kind words. You were a First Class Receptionist, proficient and thorough in your work, who always made David and myself feel most welcome. He loved your effervescent personality and the way you always remembered me, my Name Day, and made sure you included me where possible to RACI events.

Thank you for organising those exquisite flowers on behalf of the RACI.
      Regards Elene

I only knew David for a short time. In that time, despite his illness, his intellect, warmth, openness, common touch, humour, enquiring mind and humanity shone threw. He was thankful for everyone helping him, he was encouraging others, seemingly trying to ensure all was right with the team around him.

I have something to tell you though Prof: the medical students at University of Melbourne used to regularly cheat at their compulsory chemistry pracs (workbooks passed on year to year to copy).

It was a privilege to know him albeit briefly. he will be clearly missed by many.

Dear David and Helen. It was my honour to welcome David in our family and be at your amazing wedding. What a day that was. I looked through the photos and I lit a candle into your memory David.
I am so happy we managed to meet in the uk and shared a dinner together with my family. I will treasure that day.
You were both so special to us. My dear cousin treasure the special memories you shared with David .
May god rest your soul David.
All our love, your cousin Hionoula and family. Xxx
