My sincere condolences to the family of Dennis, I didn’t know any of you except Barney, my thoughts are with you all today. I met Dennis around the late 80’s when I was a broken mother of 5 children. Dennis was always considerate, kind, helpful and generous with his time and whatever he had. I remember a day I visited him at his flat and he made me an egg and bacon sandwich. No-one had done anything so kind and it seemed to me at the time the best thing anyone had done for me. He was always respectful. He even offered to look after my kids while I had a break, that’s how kind he was. He game me some very good advice which I still use today, and have used to many other people, so his legacy will live on in many people. I am sorry I cannot be there today as I had planned to be. I just wanted you to know what a wonderful person he was and the thing that saddens me is I never took the opportunity to tell him although in my defence I am not great at face to face tributes! I did see Dennis not that long ago and tried to convey this to him but didn’t do a good job of it. But he was in my prayers as you all are today.

Thank you for live streaming this for those who couldn’t make it. Dennis was such a special part of Belvoir Special School and was loved by everyone he knew. He was a wonderful, friendly and caring man who was always up for a chat and willing to help out anyone wherever he could. Dennis will be greatly missed by the Belvoir school community but always remembered for his service and dedication to our students.
May he rest in peace 💙

I have known Dennis for over 9 years at Belvoir. I used to drive wodonga council trucks until my beautiful tilly went to school at belvoir. Tilly has a life threatening illness and i changed jobs to be close to her. Tilly is a student at belvoir and I am a staff member. Dennis was always asking how tilly was going. He was so compassionate and cared so much about the students. The students loved him and so did the staff at belvoir. It will always be Dennis’s bus.
I will never forget when I went to get my bus licence. I had driven trucks with 1 or 2 people, I told Dennis my fears of driving uphill and windey rds. Well one Saturday afternoon Dennis said let’s go we drove through yack and back through the windey rds of Beechworth. I was crapping myself but Dennis had so much confidence in me knowing I could overcome my fears. He persisted with me for a few weeks in a row. Yes i got my bus licence thanks to him
Also we had a great time giving each other crap over the footy, when essendon and Carlton played well it was on.
We are missing him so much, but we know he is with our Lord our Saviour in heaven.
    We will meet again
    ❤ Shirl and Tilly
