Heartfelt condolences to Zan and family at the sad passing of Bill. I worked with Bill at the Albury police station for many years and always found him to be a knowledgeable , polite and helpful man. Never saw him in a bad mood. May your many fond memories and support from friends and family bring you some comfort at this difficult time. Thinking of you all xxx

Bill Morley. Good bloke. Good family man. Good Cop. Good mate.

As a Policeman, a number of colleagues stand out when reflecting on your career. Bill Morley was one of them.

Fondly remember relieving Bill at Kingscliff and also during the festive season when the population was well in excess of 10,000. In those days it was a one-manner, these days fifteen plus!

Bill was extremely proud of his family. I vividly remember him telling me about his youngest son “Toot” when getting a haircut in Kingscliff. Another boy had centre stage telling the barber about the farm and ALL the animals thereon, last but not least, their chooks, “Rhode Island Reds”. Quick as a flash, and wanting to get a share of the action, “Toot’ proudly announced, “Well we’ve got “Cook Island Blacks” at our place! (Cook Island is located just off Kingscliff – at least their chooks were black). Bill was so chuffed.

Police-wise Bill was tough and firm, but fair. Old school. We rescued two drunken louts from the surf at North Kingscliff. Had to dive to get one, he was gone, whereupon he vomited all over me. At the ambulance station Bill asked him his name and was abused. Said Bill, “You bastard. I ought to throw you back in the brine!” That was Bill.

It would be remiss not to mention Bill’s soul-mate, Zan, affectionly known in Police circles as “Special Constable Morley”. Regretfully I cannot be there to pay my respects, hence to you and family please accept my deepest condolences.

    Fondest regards
    John Crowley
