As boys we would roll into Culcairn in the wee hours of the morning and get greeted by Nan and Aunty Pat. We would try and get some sleep before we caught up with all the relatives but just as you got to sleep there was this strange thump, thump, and then a bang, followed minutes later by another bang. Then you would realise it was someone stomping down the hall and going outside and then coming back in. Who do you think it was? Aunty Pat. And what was she doing? Getting coal so she could stoke the fire and make a cup of tea. This was the routine for our stay. If Aunty Pat was up, everyone was up. We can shed a tear that Aunty Pat has gone, or smile because she lived. We can try and close our mind, be empty and turn our back, or we could do what Aunty Pat wants, smile, stomp our feet, and make a cup of tea!
