CRETAN

CRETAN, Aphrodity

Passed away peacefully at UPA Lavington, on Wednesday 8th February, 2023, aged 103 years, with her loving family around her.

Loving wife of Nick (dec.), mother and mother-in-law of Helen, Kathleen (dec.) & Richard and John & Anne.
Yiayia to Nicole, Michelle & Brock and Nicholas & Rachel. Pro Yiayia of Hamish, Sara, Josephine, Alexander, Theodore and Lucy. Formerly of Holbrook (and known as ‘Mrs Nick’ of the Peter Pan Café) and North Albury (Olympic Café, Mate Street).

Strong in her faith, determined to create a better life for her family through her hard work after immigrating from Crete in 1947.
Tough, strong, fit, determined, brave, independent, ‘danced to her own tune’.
An interesting life which touched so many people in a myriad of ways, including allies during WW2 in Crete.

My family and I are saddened to hear about the passing of Aphrodity Cretan.
My mother and father often spoke lovingly of both Nick and Aphrodity. They acted as mentors and confidantes when they moved to Australia in the late 60s and they always had a soft spot for Albury as a result. I had the privilege of having Kathleen (Aphrodity’s daughter) as my godmother. She was a symbol of the connection between our two families.
I visited Aphrodity a number of times over the years. She was a gentle and loving lady.
    May her memory be eternal.

    To Helen and Family
It is with deep regret that we are unable to make the service for your loving Mother. We often speak of the good times and fond memories when your family had the Peter Pan Cafe in Holbrook.
