Family and friends of the late Mr Peter Rodgers are informed that the celebration of his life will take place at New Life Chapel 158 De Kerilleau Dr, Wodonga on Wednesday 10th September 2014 commencing at 1.30pm. At the conclusion of the service, the cortege will leave for the Glenmorus Gardens Cemetery, Union Rd Albury.
RODGERS, Peter Bruce – passed away peacefully at the Mercy Hospital on Monday September 1, 2014 aged 71 years. Beloved husband of Helen. Loved father and father-in-law of Ben and Sarah. Loving son of Margaret and brother of Hugh.
Safe in the arms of Jesus
You were a gentle,kind,softly spoken,generous and loving person throughout our childhood,our youth and our adult lives together, seeing our children and our grandchildren grow up together.We, along with brother Ming and for a while with uncle Geoff, went to kindergarten, prep,junior and senior school together and also braved the regimented life of boarding school at Stanes Coimbatore.
We all hunted together,fished together and chased the girls together !We trapped quails, rared pigeons,played marbles,tops,flew kites,played Gilley dandoo,went swimming in the Pallavaram wells& Battery River,plus a hundred and one things besides teaching your step-dad Dinky how to catch the toddlers in that river?!!
Your departure from this earth is going to be tough when at every turn we are reminded of you, and for us left behind left behind we will cling to the Blessed Hope of seeing you again face to face in that ‘Meeting in the air’ with our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ being the leading One!

It was, I think, mid ’70s and we came and stayed with you. I would’ve been about 10 years old, and family holidays usually meant us kids getting dragged around to visit the Anglo Indians of the area! This holiday was different. You made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. You asked me what I wanted to do. You took me fishing. You even gave me a nickname – Geronimo. You told me stories, and spoke to me like an equal. That’s your legacy Pete – you made everyone feel like they were important to you, and you did it with authenticity. Rest in peace, uncle. Hi Pete – you were probably about 12 when you first came to Clemens Road, with Glenn and Mingie and we would all get together and chat and plan on the famous “verandah”….Des, Ted and George, and Rachy, and any others who happened to be around and the circle grew with the years. A lot of fun – a lot of memories, and then as we grew older – Tony came into our lives – and with the transition to Australia – we never lost contact because of the beautiful connection you and Helen had with Ted and Colleen – and there are a lot of happy memories – in partticular the holiday our family had with you in Albury. Pete, my awesome & amazing cousin. My heart is filled with so much sadness but also with love and gratitude for the honor & privilege of being a special part of your life. Precious & beautiful memories (that span over 65 years) of us growing up together in India and later, our life in Australia, will be ones that I will cherish and hold close to my heart forever. I’m so grateful for the time I was able to spend by your side just a couple of weeks ago & the chance I had, to let you know just how much you meant and always will mean to me and the rest of my family (who loved their Pete as well). My life is enriched because of you and your loving, kind, generous and beautiful heart. Thank you for the legacy you have left behind in your beautiful & incredible Helen, Benny & Sarah.

I won’t say “Goodbye” Pete, because we will meet again in that land “that knows no parting”.
I will always remember the good old days in Madras when we were all growing up, thanks to the conversations that we both had over the years, since coming to Australia.
Memories keep us going and yours will never die.

You were a great man whom I respected a lot. I fondly remember my childhood visits when you and Ming taught me everything I needed to know about fishing, and even in recent times your attempt to teach me Tamil! However what I appreciated the most about you was the gift of hospitality which you shared with your amazing family, your humour and the great love you had for family and friends.
It has been a great privilege to know you and we are saddened by your passing away though we are assured that we will meet you in heaven for the fun times to continue.

Peter,
I have so many beautiful memories of growing up, and most of them are of the time spent with you, Helen and Benny.
Our trips to Albury we always so exciting. Sometimes we would know what was planned, but there would always be wonderful surprises. And adventure was always guaranteed.
I remember as young girls we would do such cool things like learn how to shoot, go horse riding, visit the snow fields, go fishing – the list was endless. We were the envy of kids back in the city!
What I felt then and what I still feel to this day, is going to Pete and Helen’s place is like going home. Not just a house but home where you know you are safe, and where you know you are loved unconditionally.
My father feels you and he are kindred spirit, I guess that is why to me you are like a father.
Peter I love you with all my heart. Your spirit will always be with me.

My fishing mate Peter, Iam going to miss you terribly mate and the fishing trips we had on the Mitta river will remain in my memory forever, I will still go fly fishing but it won’t be the same without you my friend, rest in peace.

My best memories of our time together was when we went camping and fishing.
On the way home one night we hit a kangaroo. The poor thing was still alive but we needed to put it out of its misery.
You got out of the car walked up to the kangaroo, and said “hmmm, wonder if his fur would be good for tying flys.
Good on you Uncle Pete, always thinking about fishing.

I will never forget how nothing would ever be a problem for you when it came to us three girls and you treated us like your daughters,always there supporting and celebrating through all our milestones , yes you loved to talk to us but you were always a great listener too and we knew we could tell you anything , I will never forget all the great times we have had through the years and one thing is for sure we will always have Hot Diggetty Dogs !!!!
